Gwinnett County’s extensive support of healthcare and life sciences is evident in a variety of ways. Gwinnett Technical College, Georgia Gwinnett College and the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine have all developed training and education capabilities. Gwinnett Medical Center and Kaiser Permanente have both made expansions and improvements in healthcare services. Gwinnett’s geographical position as the “hub” of the Innovation Crescent is supported by life sciences concentrations at the University of Georgia, Emory, Georgia Tech and Georgia State.
Because of its strong employment growth in almost every healthcare subsector between 2005 and 2010, typically beating national rates, Gwinnett County is able to supply the locations and resources necessary to serve an aging and expanding population. With 11.5 percent of the local workforce employed in health sciences and services or its associated subsectors, existing lab space is important to the growth and development of this area in Gwinnett.
